Gaborone (Botswana) 12 August 2019 (SPS)-Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Saharawi Republic to Botswana, Mr. Malainin Mohamed (Lakhal), asserted that the relations between the two countries are historical and the decision by the Presidents of the two countries to raise them to ambassadorial level targets the future, in a statement he gave to the Media this morning in Gaborone.

The Saharawi Ambassador gave this statement to the media immediately after he has presented his letters of credence to the President of Botswana, H.E. Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, in the presence of the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Nonofo Molefhi, and other officials.

Malainin highly praised the principle position of Botswana in support of the Saharawi legitimate rights, recalling the historical ties between the two nations since the old days of resistance and struggle against foreign colonization of Africa. This position he said has never stopped, and was now raised to a higher level following a joint decision adopted by the two heads of States last year during the state visit paid by President Brahim Ghali to Botswana.

In his answers to some questions by media the Saharawi Ambassador regretted the continuous  military occupation by Morocco of parts of the Saharawi Republic, recalling that the UN, AU and the international community must pay more efforts to end this last case of decolonization in Africa.

Regarding the international theft and plunder of the Saharawi resources, Malainin informed the media that the Saharawi Republic is rich in resources, but it unfortunately suffers now from a massive plunder by Morocco and some multinationals in complete contravention of international, European and African laws.

It should be recalled that Mr. Malainin Mohamed (Lakhal), presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Saharawi Republic to Botswana, to H.E. Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, President of Botswana, this Monday morning in the President’s Office in Gaborone.
