Brussels (Belgium), 11 November 2019 (SPS) – The participants in the meeting of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) have endorsed a resolution on the issue of decolonization of Western Sahara, condemning the gross and massive violations of human rights against Sahrawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, escalation of aggression and systematic repression against peaceful demonstrations, arbitrary detention campaigns, racial and degrading treatment against Sahrawi political prisoners and their deportation to Morocco cities away from their families and country.

The resolution denounced the continued exploitation of the natural resources of the Sahrawi people by the Moroccan occupation regime and some European countries that are complicit in this offense, as well as supporting its illegal occupation of the territory for economic purposes in flagrant violation of the provisions of the European Court of Justice and the principles of international law concerning the natural resources of the Non-Self-Governing Territories. Including occupied Western Sahara.

The resolution urged the United Nations to establish an independent UN mechanism to monitor and report on human rights in the occupied territories and refugee camps, and to continue its efforts to achieve a just and lasting political solution that guarantees the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
