Shaheed El-Hafed, 11 November 2019 (SPS) – The International Campaign against the Moroccan Wall built in Western Sahara, «Together to remove the wall,» called upon the international community to pressure on the Moroccan occupier to remove this wall of humiliation and shame, dubbing it a crime against humanity that all just and peace-loving peoples must condemn and campaign to remove their barrier of separation.

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Campaign wanted to recall, in a statement, that Western Sahara is one of the world’s most polluted regions with more than 7 million antipersonnel mines and explosives, and the world’s longest military barrier.

In addition to its humanitarian, social, economic, political, legal and environmental repercussions, the Wall of Shame is also a crime against the Sahrawi people and an obstacle to the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, the Campaign said in the text.

The International Campaign against the Moroccan Wall also recalled that «the Kingdom of Morocco adamantly refuses to sign the 1997 Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on their destruction, as well as the 2008 Convention on the Protection of the Environment on Cluster Munitions, urging the international community to put pressure on Morocco to force it to eliminate the wall of occupation it has built in Western Sahara, to paralyze and destroy all the arsenal of destruction it contains, including mines and explosive remnants of war.» (SPS)
