Gaborone (Botswana) 06 September 2019 (SPS)- The Sahrawi Ambassador to Botswana, Mr. Malainin Mohamed (Lakhal), presented his credentials as the Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on Friday morning to the Executive Secretary of the SADC Secretariat, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, at SADC headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana.
The meeting which was also attended by the Director of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Affairs, Mr. Jorge Cardoso, was an opportunity for the Sahrawi Ambassador to express the gratitude of the Sahrawi Republic and the Saharawi people to SADC for the principled and firm position in favour of the right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence.
Welcoming her Sahrawi guest, SADC Executive Secretary confirmed her organisation’s position as clearly expressed by the Heads of States and Governments through the holding of the SADC Conference of Solidarity with the Sahrawi Republic last March 2019, and reaffirmed at the last SADC Summit held in Tanzania last August.
On his part, the Sahrawi Ambassador briefed his host on the latest developments in the Saharawi issue, considering that the continued Moroccan occupation of parts of the Sahrawi Republic doesn’t only impedes the stability and progress of the Sahrawi people, but keeps the entire region of North Africa hostage to the expansionist ambitions of the Moroccan regime, which is violating all African Union’s basic principles.
The two parties deliberated on a range of issues related to the Saharawi issue and on ways to implement the historical positions adopted by the head of states and governments of SADC in their recent Conference on Western Sahara.
