Algeria, Sept 20, 2016 (SPS) – The United Nations agencies announced on Monday in Algiers, that the basic needs of the Sahrawi refugees for the years 2016/2017 is estimated at more than $ 135 million in various sectors in meeting held in Algiers with the participation of High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Food Programme, UNICEF and the World Health Organization, in addition to 24 countries and representatives of 18 non-governmental organization operating in Sahrawi refugee camps and Sahrawi Red Crescent.
The meeting drew attention to the precarious humanitarian situation, especially following a heavy rain that refugee camps in October of last year and in current August witnessed causing the destruction of infrastructure and housing, appealing the donors to respond to this basic needs of Sahrawi refugees, particularly in relation to water, food, housing, education, health, social affairs and legal protection
the head of the Saharawi Red Crescent Mr. Bouhbana Yahya , in his intervention during the meeting, expressed Sahrawi gratitude to Algeria, hailing highly UN agencies and international humanitarian organizations and non-governmental organizations for their tremendous efforts towards Sahrawi people needs.
At the conclusion of the meeting , UN agencies issued an urgent appeal for donors to provide humanitarian contributions to alleviate the suffering of this long-term refugees.SPS
