Bir-Lehlou (Liberated Territories), March 12, 2018 (SPS) – President of Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has asked for the urgent intervention of the African Union in order to prevent Morocco from organising  the Crans Montana  Forum in the occupied city of Dakhla.
In a letter to President of the African Union H.E. Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic said, “I am writing to draw the attention of your Excellency to the Moroccan state’s insistence to organize, yet again, another so-called Forum of Crans Montana, from the 15th to the 20th of March, in the occupied city of Dakhla, in the occupied zones of the Saharawi Republic.”
“The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic would therefore like to ask your urgent intervention to convince the Kingdom of Morocco, as a member state of the AU, to abstain from organizing this forum in the occupied city of Dakhla, so as to avoid any possible escalation in the region.”
“The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic urges your Excellency to take all necessary steps to enable the implementation of the AU Assembly’s Decision Assembly/AU/6(XXX) on the conflict in Western Sahara, mainly with regards to the issue of the organization of this illegal event in an occupied African soil,” he added.
The President of the Republic expressed the strong condemnation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic to this blatant Moroccan violation of the African Union Constitutive Act, stressing that this provocative act also undermines the implementation of the African Union’s Decisions and international community’s efforts to bring peace to this region by completing this pending decolonization process in Western Sahara.
He also recalled that by adhering to the AU Constitutive Act and various other AU treaties and conventions, the Moroccan Kingdom has officially committed itself to respect the AU principles and goals established under Article 3, mainly to “promote peace, security and stability on the continent” and in Article 4, mainly to “respect borders existing on achievement of independence” and “prohibition of the use of force or threat to use force among Member States of the Union.” (SPS)
