Geneva (Switzerland), Sept 14, 2018 (SPS) -The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has referred in his report to the current 39th session of the Human Rights Council, in relation to cooperation with United Nations mechanisms, to the case of torture and reprisal which the Saharawi political prisoner of the Group of Gdeim Izik, Naâma Asfari Asfari , sentenced by Moroccan occupation courts to 30 years in prison, was being subject

The head of the UN points out in his report that the Committee against Torture in a decision of November 15, 2016, considered that Morocco was responsible for the violations of the Convention in the case of Saharawi defender of the human rights,  Naâma Asfari, currently deprived of liberty.

UN SG, according to the Committee against Torture, underlines that the Asfari imprisonment treatment has worsened reminding that his wife’s entry into Morocco has been denied on four occasions

«On February 13, 2018, Mr. Asfari was held in solitary confinement, in which he remained until March 13, 2018. On July 13, 2018, the Rapporteur on Reprisals and Follow-up of the Committee addressed the Government in writing «, concludes the section referring to the Saharawi activist in the report of the Secretary General of the United Nations for the current 39th session of the Human Rights Council.SPS
