New York, Sept 28, 2016 (SPS) – Uruguay and Venezuela called, Thursday for a meeting of the Security Council to address the situation in the area of El Gargarat following the Moroccan recent violation of cease fire agreement.
Repeatedly, the Polisario Front warned that this violation of the ceasefire would have serious consequences for peace and stability in the region and asked the United Nations to assume its responsibilities to stop this flagrant violation of the ceasefire, as well as taking necessary measures to ensure strict implementation of the said agreement agreed by the two parties.
Moreover, the deputy spokesman of the Secretary General of the UN Farhan Hag denied on Tuesday the information announced by the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs last Thursday in New York, on the alleged return of all members of MINURSO to their functions in Western Sahara.
Farhan Hag said that «full functionality of MINURSO has not been fully restored,» adding that in July, a first group of 25 international staff returned, indicating that United Nations continue their efforts for MINURSO to fully perform their duties.SPS
