The documentary “Life is Waiting: Referendum and Resistance in Western Sahara” by Brazilian filmmaker Lara Lee was screened Thursday evening at the “Université libre de Bruxelles”, as part of the weeklong tribute to the Sahrawi political prisoners organized since Monday, according to APS.

This 59-minute documentary, sheds light on the resistance of the Sahrawi people to the Moroccan occupier and their determination to continue struggle to exercise their alienable right to self-determination, as affirmed by activist Aminatou Haider, symbolic figure of the Sahrawi independent movement.

Under Moroccan occupation since 1975, Western Sahara is regularly the theatre of Sahrawi demonstrations for liberties, systematically suppressed by violence, shows Lara Lee’s documentary, showing also the brutality of the suppression of the Moroccan security forces against the Sahrawi people’s legitimate claims.

This work relates 40 years of the Sahrawi people’s struggle for their freedom and the organization of a self-determination referendum.
