Algiers, 4 October 2019 (SPS) – The UN Security Council’s latest resolution on MINURSO mandate has been “disappointing and below the expected level,” said Sunday the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algiers and member of the Polisario Front General Secretariat, Abdelkader Taleb Omar.
It marks deterioration in the recently achieved momentum (in Western Sahara issue), he said.
Speaking at a solidarity meeting between Algeria – Western Sahara, Taleb Omar said that the resolution was «far from the expected level, disappointing and marks a decline in the recently achieved momentum.»
The ambassador said that the resolution was practically a repetition of the previous resolution, except that the MINURSO mandate was extended for one year instead of six months.
The Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front which are experiencing this situation for 28 years and have given several chances for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, «will continue its fight by all legitimate means,» he added.
Regarding the measures to be taken by the Polisario Front, the Sahrawi diplomat told APS that «the Polisario Front has took note of the situation and sent a letter to all the concerned parties. Its management will take the necessary measures in a timely manner.»
The Sahrawi announced that the 15th Congress of the Polisario Front which will be held in the liberated territories from December 19 to 22 next, «will address this issue and take a firm stand to address things.» (SPS)
