Shaheed Al-Hafed, 24 August 2020 (SPS) – Prime Minister, Mr. Bacharya Hamoudi Beyoun, on Monday chaired the founding meeting of the National Mechanism for Coordinating Action in the Field of Human Rights.
In his speech, the Prime Minister pointed out that the work of the Mechanism, which was established under a presidential instruction, was to coordinate efforts internally and externally with respect to human rights, as the Sahrawi people suffer from daily Moroccan violations of their rights to life and a decent living, in order to develop a common vision among all the components of the Mechanism for defending these rights before national, regional and international forums in line with international humanitarian law and the resolutions of international organizations in this regard.
For his part, Minister of Affairs of Occupied territories and Community Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Akeik, noted that the meeting had been to set up this Mechanism and to start its work to receive its constituents’ perception on the issue as well as conformity with the international human rights conventions.
In a statement to the media, President of the Association of the Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared, Mr. Abdessalam Omar, stressed that the establishment of the Mechanism is an important step to further coordinate and confront the violations of the rights of Sahrawis by the Moroccan occupier and all violations of international humanitarian law.
