New York, June 9, 2019 (SPS) – The Frente POLISARIO seized the United Nations bodies following the brutal repression of young Sahrawis in the occupied city of Smara by Moroccan security forces as they celebrated the release of Sahrawi political prisoner Salah Labseer.
The representative of the Frente POLISARIO to the United Nations, Dr. Sidi-Mohamed Omar, on Saturday sent a letter of condemnation to MINURSO head, Colin Stewart, the UN Under-Secretaries in charge of political affairs and peacekeeping operations, and members of the Security Council.
The Sahrawi diplomat, who accompanied his letter with a video recording showing young Saharawis brutalized by the Moroccan security forces, denounced the barbarism of the Moroccan police and paramilitary agents
Recalling the recommendations of the UN Secretary-General in his latest report on Western Sahara, the Sahrawi representative stressed the urgent need for independent monitoring of human rights in the occupied territories.
The Sahrawi diplomat stated that it has become imperative that the United Nations, through its mission on the ground, take the necessary measures to put an end to the brutality and impunity of the Moroccan authorities that violate the fundamental human rights of Sahrawis in the occupied territories.
