Bir Lahlou (liberated Territories) October 03 2017 (SPS) – The President of the Republic , Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO Mr. Brahim Gali stressed that it is time to expedite the implementation of the MINURSO mission in organizing a referendum to determine the fate of the Sahrawi people,  in a letter to UNSG, Mr. Antonio Guterres, following the brutal and barbaric attacks by the Moroccan occupation authorities against the unarmed Saharawi citizens who took part in peaceful demonstrations demanding the Sahrawi people right to self-determination  and independence and the release of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.
The President stressed that it is time to enable MINURSO, in addition to expediting the implementation of its mandate to organize a referendum for the self-determination of the Saharawi people, with  a mechanism for the protection, monitoring and reporting of human rights in Western Sahara, the protection of the Sahrawi natural resources, including the removal of the wall of occupation, the crime against humanity that divides Western Sahara, land and people, by the arsenal of destruction and millions of mines, including anti-personnel, which are internationally prohibited.
Brahim Gali, pointed out that the increase in the number of victims, insofar as it reflects the broad participation of Saharawi citizens and their firm will in the legitimate defense of a sacred international right, guaranteed by the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations as much as it reflects the urgent need for the international community to assume its responsibilities to protect the Sahrawi citizens and ensure their exercise of their fundamental rights, against the increasing repression practiced by the Moroccan occupation State.
«As far as the existence of a decolonization situation in the twenty-first century is a strange and shameful phenomenon for the international community, it is a disgrace that the international community remains indifferent to the heinous practices and gross violations committed by illegal military occupation forces over an territory under the responsibility of the United Nations and represented by a mission in place,» the president told the UN secretary-general.
The letter reiterates once again that these repeated Moroccan violations reflect the intention of provocation and obstruction, following the initiation of the Personal Envoy, Mr. Horst Koehler, in the exercise of his duties, demanding the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners in prisons and to conduct independent international medical expertise on the detainees of Gdeim Izik and to cancel the decision to disperse them in Moroccan prisons in accordance with the requirements of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
